You do not have to have a vehicle to join STHARC, but you must be a financial member of an accredited automobile club to be eligible to obtain Historic Registration (Club Plates) in New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory.

 

Registration in the club is open to all Veteran (up to 1919), Vintage (1920 to 1930) and Historic Automobiles (equal to or greater than 30 years of age), any make and any model. This also applies to Tractors and Motorcycles meeting the above criteria.

One membership can have numerous vehicles on Historic Registration (Club Plates).

 

Family Membership is the applicant accepted for membership but also includes the nominated partner of the applicant and any family members resident at the same address under the age of 18 years. In the case of electing office bearers etc. family membership is counted as one vote.

 

The membership fee structure is as follows:

 

Annual (12 Months) Membership is $60 plus a one off $25 joining fee. The membership year runs from 1 July to 30 June the following year.

 

Persons who apply for membership after the first of January each membership year, if accepted, will be required to pay the joining fee as prescribed and one half of the annual subscription fee.

All new applicants for membership of the club are required to attend a club meeting and address the membership present of their interests in historic motoring and their reasons for wishing to join STHARC.

 

There are increasing concerns among clubs whose members have access to the NSW 60 log book trial about the possible abuse of the scheme by some people.  It has been drawn to the attention of members of the movement that the use of some of the vehicles currently registered on H plates does not appear to be related to any genuine interest in historic motoring.

 

The 60-day log book trial allows for considerable flexibility in the use of vehicles.  That flexibility is welcomed and used by many STHARC members who are members of multiple clubs but use the same vehicles to participate in meetings of clubs through which the vehicles are not registered.  It also assists with the preservation of heritage vehicles even if those vehicles are not regularly used for club or other activities.

 

STHARC’s Constitution is quite clear about the objectives and purposes of the club.  Members who register vehicles under the NSW historic vehicle arrangements are expected to be doing so in the context of those objectives.

The Committee of Management has identified examination of log books by the Registrar at the time of registration renewals as a first step in monitoring for the appropriate use of the concessional registration arrangements.
